"Unlike submission-based design contests, this tournament is a battle format where emerging designers flex their skills before a live audience. It requires competitors to rapidly perform as their computer displays their project onto large screens. Competition rounds are 15-20 minutes each -fast and furious. It’s a dance of visual artistry accompanied by DJ music, an MC host and the influence of active bartenders.

Each tournament event features competitions in 2D, 3D and Motion/Animation design. The winners of each competition in each city are flown to New York to compete in our annual Global Championship."

Im Rahmen des Projekts “Temporäre architektonische Intervention auf einer Brachfläche” (kurz T.A.I.B.) des Kölner Architekten Jonathan Haehn, stellen wir, vom 12. bis 14. August in Bochum aus. Das T.A.I.B. steht am alten Katholikenbahnhof in Bochum am Fuße des Bermuda3Ecks / Parkplatz vor dem Riff. Neben unseren Arbeiten aus dem Bereichen Illustration, Fotografie, Grafikdesign und Motiondesign, gibt es Musik und Visuals, sowie einen Siebdruck Workshop.

Das T.A.I.B. ist an allen Tagen von 12-24Uhr geöffnet.

Es ist geschafft – die zweite Ausgabe des Nonstopnerds Zines (kurz NZINE) - THE GREEN ISSUE - erblickt das Tageslicht und ist ab sofort offiziell erhältlich! Nonstopnerds ist ein unabhängiges Designkollektiv, mit Basis im Ruhrgebiet und einigen internationalen Vertretern, über den Globus verstreut. Der Dortmunder Westpark, manchen bekannt als die ‘grüne Lunge’ der Dortmunder City, wird Schauplatz unseres Auftakts in der Region. Kommenden Samstag – das ist der 12. JUNI – 13°° Uhr gehts los, und wer kommt, bringt Interesse, Bier oder was zu Grillen mit. Wer den Abend dann noch weiter gestalten mag, zieht ab 18°° mit weiter zu Claudio Oliverio’s Vernissage seiner Ausstellung PERSONAL PORTRAITS.

Eine audiovisuelle Live-Collage

Arbeit kann laut sein, unerträglich laut und hart, wenn es sich um Arbeit rund um die Kohlengrube handelt. Doch Krach ist zähmbar.

Die Arbeit des Essener Audiokünstlers Jan Pauly ist laut – aber auch leise. Er komponiert aus den unheimlichen Geräuschen der Bergbauindustrie Musik, spielt sie schrill wie sanft, lang wie kurz, langsam wie schnell. In einem intensiven Prozess analysierte und gliederte er Original-Geräuschkulissen, zerschnitt und fügte sie zusammen, komprimierte und dekonstruierte Klänge und komponierte aus Artefakten neue Strukturen. Heraus gekommen ist eine Sammlung aus Loops und Schleifen, Rhythmusmustern und Melodiebögen, die man nicht erwartet, wenn man an die martialische Krachwelt der Bergbaumaloche denkt. Dass quietschende Förderbänder, rumpelnde Loren und dröhnende Anschlagsignale fast poetisch daher klingen können, ist schwer vorstellbar. Dem geneigten Ohr offenbart sich, dass jedem Klang (und Krach) ein Zauber innewohnt. Die Arbeit ist dabei nicht als statische Installation, sonders als stetig wandelnde Live-Collage konzipiert. Alle Sequenzen werden ständig neu ausgewählt und zusammengestellt, sodass jedes Arrangement einzigartig ist. Daneben erzeugen Effekte und Filter ungeahnte Dekonstruktionen, die aus Noisefloor nahezu Dancefloor werden lassen. Garniert werden die entstehenden Klanggebilde mit irrwitzigen wie nachdenklichen Zitaten aus alten Bergbauwerbefilmen und klassischem Liedgut der Bergleute. Wie der Bergmann der 50er proklamierte, könnte nun auch der Künstler der 00er sagen: „Was ein rechter Kumpel ist, der ist stolz auf seine Arbeit und der hängt an ihr!“

Dem hörbaren Kosmos stellen die Grafiker und Illustratoren Florian Backhaus und David Latz die visuelle Komponente der Welt der Kohlen zur Seite. Auch sie bedienen sich des reichen Fundus, den der Bergbau in Bildern hinterlassen hat. Die Beine der Zechentürme, die Skelette der Gasometer, die Bäuche der Kohlenbunker und die staubgetünchten Gesichter der Kumpels; mittels intuitiver Zeichensprache werden die Relikte der industriellen Blütezeit des Ruhrgebiets wieder lebendig. Mal fein skizzierend oder grob schraffierend, mal kurzweilig kritzelnd oder Flächen füllend wandeln sie mit den technischen Möglichkeiten zeitgenössischer Grafik und Illustration durch die Zechenwelten. Durch verschiedene Formen des Übereinanderlegens und anderer Mittel der Abstraktion entsteht ein dynamischer Prozess, der dem Zuschauer in jedem Moment ein anderes, dabei einzigartiges Bild bietet, das Spielraum für eigene Interpretationen lässt.

Der ebenfalls live-geführte Prozess wird mit einem lichtstarken Projektor vollformatig auf großflächige Fassaden projiziert. Die durch den Filter verschiedener illustrativer Mittel verfremdeten Motive ermöglichen einen individuellen und subtilen Blick auf die Industriekultur des Ruhrgebiets.

Beide Vorgänge, der akustische und visuelle, ergeben zusammen ein einzigartig verzahntes Ensemble, das sich zu einem Eindruck zur Welt des Bergbaus verdichtet, wie man ihn in dieser Form noch nicht gewonnen hat.
